The Rise of The Fallen
St Clarice DuParis
St. Clarice DuParis, the Martyr of Leroux, was a half-elf fighter who is most remembered for her death defending the town of Leroux from an attack by The Army of Darkness during the Hundred Years Chaos.
She was the daughter of Reverend Mother Miranda DuParis, one of The Daughters of the Dawn, but broke all ties with her mother for reasons she never revealed. She drifted to Leroux, a small but vital port town in southern Coralton, and spent several years there as a mercenary and town drunkard. But when The Army of Darkness sent a force to capture the town, Clarice turned out to be the most experienced warrior around. She sobered up and began training the militia in tactics that could defeat the Devils, and regained her holy powers fighting against them. She was struck down by the devil commander, but he was destroyed in a flash of holy radiance that scattered the devil army and rallied the troops to victory. Clarice was entombed with honors and later beautified by her mother, who had became Exalt of the Great Church.
Some scholars question whether Clarice really exploded in miraculous holy fire, or if she had simply packed a hundred pounds of gunpowder, flasks of holy water, and roofing nails in a bag of holding that she dropped into the pit fiend’s flaming aura. The truth may never be known.
